![]() ![]() Athia's leaders, the Tantas, have been corrupted and have caused dark magic to poison the land and create dangerous creatures. When Frey arrives to the main fantasy setting, Athia, she tries to avoid helping its people because she doesn't see that as her responsibility even though they clearly need her help and will continue to suffer and possibly die without her. So far, the main themes of the story are about accountability and responsibility for your actions. There's been criticism about this being stereotypical and unnecessary but if the story's themes (so far) are what I think they are then I think the game's opening scene in a courtroom with a judge makes sense. One thing I want to address is the criticism about the black female protagonist, Frey, having a criminal record. Also, the side quests have mostly been forgettable aside from one where I fed some cute sheep. There's only a few activities that I liked such as going into magic ponds to unlock new abilities and taking photos. A lot of checklist "go here and kill that" stuff. I like the magic so far though I wish they gave you the second skill tree sooner.Īs for the open world, so far, it's full of typical open world stuff that you saw in the demo. ![]() There's also optional bosses in short dungeons that you can delve into for more lore and XP. The enemy variety is decent so far: basic mobs of zombies, shield guys that you have to get around to do tons of damage, flying enemies, wild corrupted animals like deer and lion things. Enemies hit hard and the parkour dodge won't protect you from every incoming attack, you still have to pay attention to the enemies. The combat is surprisingly challenging even on normal mode. ![]() I especially like using the parkour to go through doors because Frey has a cool, flashy animation for opening them. The parkour is simple but fun to use because of how Frey just glides through environments with well done animations. If it wasn't for the hit or miss writing, awkward voice acting and mediocre presentation (mainly facial and character animations in certain cutscenes) then it'd be an 8/10 because the parkour and the combat are pretty good. Overall, I'd give this game a 7/10 so far. I've played 7 hours so far and I've beaten the first of the four main bosses (no, that isn't a spoiler, the main goal of taking them down has been explained before in the marketing). I got an early copy of the game on Tuesday (mom & pop stores breaking street date). ![]()
